Privacy Policy

Our calculators run in your browser, and the numbers you enter are never sent to a server.

What our calculators do

Any calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you type, such as a lot size or a margin figure, are processed by JavaScript on your device and are never sent to a server controlled by us. That means we cannot see, store, or share those numbers.

We do not use analytics that capture individual keystrokes or form inputs. We only count aggregate traffic, such as the number of visitors to a page in a month, without identifying any person. No personal data is collected from the calculator.

Local storage and cookies

Local storage on your device may hold your own preferences, such as a chosen language or a display setting. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us. You can clear local storage at any time through your browser settings.

We do not set tracking cookies ourselves. If you click an affiliate link and go to a broker's website, that broker sets its own cookies under its own privacy policy, and we have no control over that. Read the broker's privacy policy before you share any personal information with them.

What we collect

Naija Gold Steps collects no personal data through the site. We do not have a login system, a newsletter, or a comment section, so we do not ask for your name, email, or phone number. The only way to contact us is by sending an email to editor@naijagoldsteps.com, and any data in that email is used only to reply to you.

We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties, because we do not have any. Aggregate traffic counts, such as page views, are used only to understand which pages are useful, and they cannot be traced back to an individual.

What This Site Stores and What It Does Not

This site stores nothing that can identify you unless you choose to send it through the contact form. Naija Gold Steps is a calculator and information site, so it does not hold account names, card numbers, or wallet addresses on its own servers. The only pieces kept are the small local values explained in the cookie section and the anonymous page counts described under analytics. If you never type a message and never click a broker link, the site leaves no personal trace that could be linked back to you as an individual.

The site does not store your trading results, your margin figures, or the numbers you enter into any calculator. Those calculations run entirely inside your own browser and disappear when you close the tab. A refresh starts from a blank slate. This is deliberate: a beginner checking what a 0.10-lot gold position requires at the maximum offshore leverage of 1:200 will see the margin figure of about $85.50 appear on screen, but that figure is not written to a database, not sent to us, and not shared with any partner.

What the site does keep is limited to the technical data a web server normally logs: your device type, browser version, approximate location at city level, and the pages visited. Those logs are used only to keep the site running and to see which topics are most useful to Nigerian readers. They are not used to build a profile of you, they are not sold, and they are regularly overwritten. No account, no username, and no password are required anywhere on Naija Gold Steps, so there is nothing to store in that sense.

Cookies and What Each Kind Is For

Cookies on Naija Gold Steps are split into three kinds: strictly necessary, preference, and affiliate tracking. Strictly necessary cookies are the only ones that cannot be switched off. They remember that you have seen the cookie notice, keep a page working while it loads, and keep the site secure. They do not follow you around the web and they expire quickly. Without them, the site would forget your cookie choice on every page and could not protect its forms from abuse.

Preference cookies are the ones that remember display choices, such as whether you prefer light or dark mode or which calculator tab you last opened. They are not essential, but they make repeat visits smoother. These cookies contain no personal information and are set only when you use a feature that needs them. If you clear your browser storage, the preferences are lost and the site returns to its default look. You can block them and still use every calculator and every article normally.

Affiliate tracking cookies are set only when you click a link that leads to a broker such as FxPro. Their only job is to tell the broker that you came from Naija Gold Steps, so that if you later open an account the site may receive a referral fee. They do not raise any cost you pay and they do not collect your name or email by themselves. The lifetime of these cookies is set by the broker, not by this site, and is typically between 30 and 90 days.

Affiliate Tracking Stated Plainly

Naija Gold Steps earns money when a reader clicks a broker link and later becomes a client. That is the only affiliate relationship on the site. The link carries a small identifier that tells the broker, and only the broker, that the visit started here. No personal detail is attached at that moment. If you simply read the gold margin examples and close the page, no affiliate cookie is set and no referral can be recorded.

The referral fee is paid by the broker out of its own revenue. It does not change your spread, your commission, or any swap you are charged. You never pay more because you came through this site. The amount the site earns is not a fixed number; it depends on the broker's programme, the product you trade, and your activity. The site does not know your account balance or your trades, and the broker does not share that information back with us.

You can avoid affiliate tracking entirely by not clicking broker links. You can also clear your cookies after clicking, or open the broker site in a private window. If you do click and later decide to open an account, the tracking cookie simply lets the broker credit the referral. The site still publishes the same leverage figures, the same margin example of about $85.50 at 1:200 for a 0.10-lot gold position, and the same warnings about risk whether or not a referral happens.

Third Parties Involved

The third parties involved on this site are the hosting provider, the analytics service, and the brokers linked from the pages. The hosting provider stores the site files and the basic server logs. The analytics service receives only anonymous page views and device types; it cannot see the numbers you type into a calculator. The broker, currently FxPro, receives a click and possibly a referral cookie when you follow a link from Naija Gold Steps.

FxPro is the only broker named on this site. The entity that serves Nigeria is FxPro Markets Direct Costa Rica Latam SRL, and the platforms offered are MT4, MT5, cTrader, and FxPro Edge. The regulator caveat that applies to Nigerian readers is that FxPro is licensed by the FCA in the UK, CySEC, and FSCA, but you should confirm any broker on the SEC Nigeria register of capital market operators before opening an account. This site does not pass your personal details to FxPro; the broker only knows you came from here if you click a tracked link.

No social media plugin, no advertising network, and no data broker is used on Naija Gold Steps. The site does not embed Facebook pixels or Google Ads tracking. The analytics tool is configured to collect as little as possible and to anonymise IP addresses. That means a Nigerian reader checking gold margin requirements leaves a record of a visit from Lagos or Abuja, but not a record of the exact address, the device serial number, or the typed numbers. The fewer third parties, the fewer places your information can leak.

Your Rights and How to Use Them

As a reader in Nigeria, you have the right to ask what personal data this site holds about you, to ask for a copy, to ask for correction, and to ask for deletion. Because the site holds almost nothing, most requests are answered with a confirmation that no personal data is stored. To use any of these rights, send a message through the contact form on the site with the subject line 'Privacy request'. The request is handled by the site owner without a fee.

You also have the right to object to processing and to withdraw consent for cookies at any time. Withdrawing consent means clearing the cookies in your browser or using the cookie settings link in the footer to change your choices. This site does not use any data for automated decisions or profiling, so there is no 'algorithmic score' to challenge. If you believe the site has mishandled your information, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), which is the authority for data protection in Nigeria.

The site responds to privacy requests within 30 days, which is the standard under the Nigeria Data Protection Act. To make a request specific, include the pages you visited and the approximate dates. If you clicked a broker link, note that the broker is a separate data controller; you would need to contact FxPro directly for data held by them. This site cannot delete the broker's referral cookie from your browser; you delete that yourself through your browser settings.

How Long Anything Is Kept and What Deletes It

Server logs on Naija Gold Steps are kept for 30 days and then automatically overwritten. They contain only technical entries like page URLs, timestamps, and city-level locations. After 30 days, the old log file is replaced by a new one, so no long-term history of your visits exists. If you send a message through the contact form, the message and your email address are kept for 12 months after the conversation ends, then deleted manually.

Cookies have their own lifetimes set either by this site or by the broker. The strictly necessary cookie that remembers your cookie choice lasts 12 months. Preference cookies last up to 6 months or until you clear your browser. Affiliate cookies set by FxPro when you click a broker link last between 30 and 90 days, depending on the broker's current policy. After that period, the cookie expires on its own and the referral can no longer be credited.

What deletes data is usually automatic: log rotation, cookie expiry, or browser clearing. You can delete any cookie at any time by using your browser's 'clear browsing data' function. You can also ask the site to delete any contact form message earlier than the 12-month period by sending a deletion request. The site does not keep backups that survive deletion for long; the hosting provider's backups are overwritten every 7 days, so a deleted message is gone from all live and backup copies within a week.

What the calculators do with the numbers you type

The numbers you enter into any Naija Gold Steps calculator stay inside your browser and are used only to show you the result on that same page. None of those figures are saved to a server, none are added to a database, and none are sent back to us. The whole calculation runs locally on your device, which means the price of gold you type, the lot size you pick, or the account currency you choose never leave your phone or computer. This is by design, so you can test as many scenarios as you want without creating a record of your trading guesses or your intended position size.

Because the calculator is a piece of JavaScript running in the page itself, it does not need to ask a remote computer for help. That also means the result appears instantly, and there is no log of what you typed. The only thing the page remembers is what you enter into the fields while that tab is open, and even that memory is cleared the moment you close the tab or refresh. If you type a gold price of 4275.0 and then change it to 4300.0, the first number is simply overwritten in the browser, not stored anywhere else.

This approach has one practical consequence for you: if you clear your browser history or use a private window, there is no way for this website to reconstruct what you calculated before. We cannot see your margin result, your pip value, or your profit target. The calculator does not store a history of your past sums, and we have no interest in building one. All the arithmetic exists only for the few seconds it takes to display it, and then it is gone. That is the same whether you are on a phone in Lagos or a laptop in Abuja.

You should also know that the calculator is not connected to your broker account in any way. It does not know if you trade with FxPro or with another firm, and it cannot pull your live balance or your open positions. It is a standalone tool for learning and planning. When you type a leverage of 1:200 and a lot size of 0.10, it uses the formula you already understand: margin equals contract size times price divided by leverage, but it does that without telling anyone. The result you see is yours alone, and nothing about that calculation is transmitted over the internet.

Broker tracking and how to limit it

Finally, because the calculator works entirely on your device, it cannot be used to identify you later. There is no unique code attached to your sums, no hidden marker that links one visit to the next. If you open the calculator ten times in one day, the website has no way of knowing that the same person was behind all ten sessions. The only record that might exist is in your own browser cache, and that cache is under your control. You can delete it at any time, and the calculator will simply start fresh the next time you load the page.

The one exception to this local-only rule is the page itself. When you visit any page on this site, the server that delivers the page records the usual technical details: your IP address, the time of the request, and the type of browser you used. That is standard for any website and is necessary to send the page to the right device. But the specific numbers you put into the calculator are not part of that record. The server does not receive your gold price, your lot size, or your leverage. It only knows that a page was requested, not what you did on that page.

So in plain terms, the calculator is a private scratchpad. You can work out the margin for a 1.00-lot gold trade at a price of 4275.0, see that it would need about $855.00 at 1:200 leverage, and then close the tab without leaving a trace. That is the entire function of the tool, and we built it that way on purpose. Your trading numbers are your business, and the calculator does not try to make them ours.

There is no hidden data collection in the calculator, no silent upload of your inputs, and no third-party script running inside it that could capture what you type. The page does load some common resources like fonts or the script that makes the site look right, but those resources do not have access to the calculator fields. The code that does the sums is written by us, and it does not phone home. If you are technically inclined, you can open the developer tools in your browser, go to the network tab, and watch what happens when you press calculate: nothing is sent.

What broker links reveal

For readers who worry about keyloggers or screen scrapers, the same rule applies as for any website: the browser itself is secure, but the device you use must be free of malware. The calculator cannot protect you from a virus that is already on your computer. What it can promise is that this website does not install any such software and does not ask for any permissions beyond what a normal page needs. No pop-up will ask to record your screen, no extension is required, and no download is necessary. The calculator runs in the page, and that is all it does.

What leaves your browser when you follow a broker link

When you click a link on this site that goes to a broker such as FxPro, several pieces of information are sent from your browser to the broker's website as part of the normal request to open that page. The most important thing that leaves your browser is the address of the page you were on when you clicked. This is called the referrer, and it tells FxPro that you arrived from Naija Gold Steps. That is how affiliate tracking works in its simplest form: the broker sees the referring site and can credit the referral if you later open an account.

In addition to the referrer, your browser also sends its user agent string, which identifies the browser and operating system you are using, and your IP address. These are standard for every link you click anywhere on the internet, not just on this site. Your IP address gives a rough idea of your location, which is how FxPro knows you are likely in Nigeria and can show you the correct entity, such as FxPro Markets Direct Costa Rica Latam SRL. None of this is unique to Naija Gold Steps; it is how the web works.

The link itself may contain an affiliate identifier, which is a short code that tells FxPro which partner sent you. That code is specific to this website and is included in the URL you are taken to. It does not contain any personal information about you; it is the same code for every visitor who clicks that link. When you land on FxPro's site, they may set their own cookies on your device to remember that you came from us. Those cookies are controlled by FxPro, not by Naija Gold Steps, and their privacy policy applies from that point onward.

Once you are on the broker's website, anything you type there — your name, email, phone number, or account details — is sent directly to FxPro, not to us. We do not see any of that information, and we do not have access to it. Our involvement ends at the click. The broker may also collect data about your activity on their site, such as which pages you view or how long you stay. That data is governed by FxPro's own privacy policy, and you should read it before you open an account.

Calculator privacy on your device

It is also worth knowing that the broker may use additional tracking technologies on their pages, such as pixels or scripts from third-party analytics providers. Those are not under our control, and they operate according to the broker's arrangements. When you leave Naija Gold Steps, you are entering a different website with its own rules. The information that left your browser at the moment of the click is limited to the referrer, your IP address, your user agent, and the affiliate code in the URL. Nothing else is transmitted by us.

If you are concerned about what is sent, you can take steps to limit it. Most browsers allow you to disable the referrer header, either globally or for specific sites, and you can use a VPN to mask your IP address. However, doing so may affect how the broker's site works for you, and it may break the affiliate tracking. If you do not want the broker to know you came from this site, you can simply type their address directly into your browser instead of clicking a link. That way, no referrer is sent, and the affiliate code is absent.

The affiliate code itself is harmless. It is a string of characters that identifies Naija Gold Steps as the source of the referral. It does not identify you personally, and it does not carry any data about your device or your browsing history. The broker uses it to attribute any account you might open to us, which is how we earn a commission. But that commission does not come out of your pocket; it is paid by the broker from their own revenue. Your trading costs, such as spreads or commissions, are the same whether you use our link or go directly.

We do not collect or store the fact that you clicked a broker link. The link is just a normal hyperlink with an affiliate parameter. We do not run any script that records your click before sending you to FxPro. The click is not tracked on our server, and we do not know which individual readers clicked which links. The only party that knows about the click is the broker, because they receive the referrer and the affiliate code. We may receive aggregate reports from the broker later, such as how many visitors clicked and how many opened accounts, but those reports do not identify you.

Protect yourself from malware

Finally, remember that following a broker link does not give the broker any information about your activity on Naija Gold Steps beyond the fact that you were on the page with the link. They do not know what you calculated in our calculator, what articles you read, or how long you spent on our site. The referrer only shows the URL of the page you were on, not your browsing history. So the privacy impact of clicking a broker link is minimal and is limited to the standard data that every website receives when you visit it.

FAQ

Getting started

What personal data does Naija Gold Steps collect when I read an article?

We collect only what your browser sends automatically: IP address, device type, pages visited, and time on page. We use this in aggregate to see which topics are useful. If you use the contact form, we store your name, email address and message. We do not collect your naira balance or trading history.

Do you share my email address with FxPro if I click an affiliate link?

No, clicking a link does not send us your email. Only if you open an account through our link and FxPro reports a successful referral do we receive a confirmation, but not your email address. We never sell or rent your contact details to any broker or third party.

How long do you keep my contact form messages about gold trading?

We keep messages for twelve months, then delete them. This helps us answer follow-up questions and track corrections. If you want your message deleted sooner, reply to our response and ask. We do not use your email for marketing unless you tick the optional box to receive our monthly gold education newsletter.

Does this site use cookies that track my trading activity on FxPro?

No, our cookies only remember your site preferences, like dark mode or calculator inputs. We cannot see what you do on FxPro's platform. The affiliate link may set a cookie that tells FxPro you came from Naija Gold Steps, but it does not give us access to your trading account or positions.

What is your legal basis for processing my data under Nigerian law?

We rely on your consent when you submit the contact form and on legitimate interest for basic analytics. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us. We follow the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation, and we do not transfer personal data outside Nigeria except for email hosting with standard contractual safeguards.
